Diane’s 50th Birthday Party – Texas style in Colorado!

October 25, 2009

The day before Diane’s Texas themed birthday party it was snowing and freezing cold, but the decorations still went up and more heaters were on demand to prepare for the following day’s event. Luckily, by the next day the snow had melted and the tent had warmed up comfortably. The big screen started working just in time to catch the second half of the Bronco’s killer game, the bull was saddled and ready to be ridden, the armadillo was ready to be eaten (cake that is), and Diane was remarkably dressed in her stylish black and red western gear with matching tall boots and hot pepper necklace. It turned out to be a remarkable party with dance lessons, balloon artists, and lots of games and activities to keep everyone entertained. The large tent was decked out in decorations, including a framed collection of Diane’s personal photos throughout the years and original Life magazines on display from 50 years ago! It always amazes me to see how much photography changes and repeats itself. Diane’s elegant high school senior portrait wouldn’t impress most of today’s students that prefer the grungy graffiti backgrounds. However, the Life photos reminded me of the antique filters I use on some of my images which seems to be a returning trend. Happy Birthday Diane, and hope to see you at your 100th and many more!

Baseball, Beer, and History – Denver Engagement Session

October 13, 2009

What do you get when you combine baseball, beer, and a state capitol?? You get Emily & Andrew’s perfect engagement photo shoot!  At our design consultation I learned about their love for baseball (they just moved here so not yet a Rockies fan, but its only a matter of time), their love for beer (we just missed each other at the Great Am. Beer Festival!), and a love for history (well at least for school teacher Andrew).  So I scouted some locations, did some research, and found 3 perfect spots for our photo shoot!  Luckily I happened to know someone at the Great Divide Brewery who gave us backstage passes to their brewery warehouse – along with some amazing beer!  I did Emily’s sister’s engagement session last year and was stoked when Emily called me to do hers!  We had a great time and got some amazing and unique photos!  Thanks again to all those who helped make this shoot happen, including my wonderful assistant Madigan!

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month…

October 12, 2009

We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer.   3 of my immediate family members plus my aunt have been diagnosed with and thankfully cured of breast cancer….so I know its effects and pain far too well.
Therefore, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month…I am offering to donate $100 to the cause for every woman who schedules a personal portrait session.  Must be booked now through October 31st and includes the following photo shoots – Personality, Head shot, Model Portfolios, and Boudoir.

Tonight’s Wedding Rehearsal at Green Gables Country Club

October 9, 2009

I just got back from Kate & Alex’s rehearsal at the beautiful Green Gables Country Club in Denver.   I decided to go so that I could learn my way around before tomorrow’s wedding and find some fun interesting spots for photos.  I don’t think they were expecting me to take any pictures, but if I have my camera on me – it’s impulse for me to start shooting and to document the action!  We’re hoping the weather will hold up and we can have the ceremony outside, but the inside location is so nice with the antique chandeliers , mirrors, and fireplace that either spot will come out looking great…especially when you add in the gorgeous bride and handsome groom =)

Engagement Photo Session – Cheeseman Park Neighborhood

October 2, 2009

This is my favorite time of year to do engagement pictures in Colorado! The spring flowers are budding at 6ft. tall and the fall leaves are just starting to color the parks with beautiful shades of gold and red. For Anika & Chad’s engagement session we met a couple of blocks from Cheeseman Park to start with some graffiti-urban style shots around the neighborhood. Then we headed to the park where I was a little disappointed to find a festival had taken over the pavilion I was anxious to shoot under. But sometimes the unexpected leads to fun surprises – which included a cool brick driveway, a taco break, and someone’s incredible front yard garden.  Being avid rock climbers (they are even building a climbing wall inside their house!), I knew Anika & Chad would be up for an adventure! We talked Chad out of scaling buildings, but did get him to jump in the water fountain! The couple’s fun casual style inspired me to create a few cartoonish painterly like images from their photo shoot. Anika & Chad will be married in May at one of my favorite spots to shoot – the Red Lion Restaurant in Boulder. Thanks guys for a fun shoot!
