Engagement Pictures in Golden, CO

August 12, 2010

Sarah & Dylan lived and played in Golden, before a job sent them packing to their current location in Arkansas.  So it only made sense when they came to town last week for some necessary wedding planning that we do their engagement shoot in Golden.  Their time in Denver was limited, so we met early in the morning for a walk down Golden’s main avenue, Washington Ave.  Then we walked along Clear Creek (which unfortunately was more muddy then clear on this day), to Coors Brewery, where Dylan reminisced & shared fraternity stories.  We then headed back to Washington St. for a coffee break where we spotted Governor Bill Ritter taking a break from a bike ride.  I decided against posting the unflattering shot of him in his skin tight biker shorts (but feel free to visualize it), but I’m starting to get a nice collection of random politician black mail photos.  Too bad I’m not in the paparazzi business.  What a weird job that would be…getting paid to make people look bad, I’m glad I specialize in making people look good ;-)   Which is perhaps why my intern called me a “hopeless romantic” today.  Anyway…enough ranting….to see this couple’s picture preview watch the slideshow below.  I’m really excited for Sarah & Dylan’s Halloween wedding at Grant Humphrey’s Mansion.  It is one of my favorite locations & holidays, which I’m sure will make for quite an amazing day!

1st Wedding Video Attempt – A New Orleans 2nd Line Parade & TRW

August 10, 2010

The video option on my new camera, the  Nikon D300s, has been exciting to play with.  I couldn’t resist taking it out for Lauren & Seth’s wedding 2nd line parade.  Following their wedding ceremony at Jackson Square, the bride & groom surprised their guests when a local New Orleans band showed up to lead the group into a second line parade around the French Quarter and to their dinner location at Galatoire’s.  I still have so much to learn when it comes to video, and certainly don’t intend for it to at all interfere with my photography, but I’m just excited for this new element of technology that now exists on my D300s.
Oh, and if you are a fan of The Real World New Orleans on MTV, then be sure to look on the wall of their mansion for my fine art photography (found in 2 of the bedrooms…ooh la la).   Limited edition prints from my New Orleans art series can be found online here, or you can find the actual pieces from the set now hanging at First Cup Cafe, located a few blocks away from TRW house in New Orleans.

Engagement Book Sample – Downtown Denver with Diana & Matt

August 7, 2010

Diana & Matt did an urban inspired engagement session, a nice contrast to their nature inspired Hudson Gardens wedding coming up later this month.  Flip through their album proof below to see shots from their graffiti & whisky photo shoot.  When viewing keep in mind that each image (except the cover page) is actually a 2 page spread (how you would see the book open flat). You can also select the TV looking icon in the lower bottom right of the slide show after you press “play” to see the images full screen.

Denver, Colorado Wedding at Green Gables Country Club

August 6, 2010

Hila & Mike got married at the beautiful Green Gables Country Club. The last time I photographed a wedding there it was freezing cold and snowy, so I was relieved we had dry warm weather this time. Hila & Mike had a traditional Jewish ceremony consisting of the signing of the ketubah, the breaking of the glass, and the hora….which is my favorite – a fun dance consisting of guests circling around the couple as they are lifted up in their chairs (I wish I could have had that for my wedding)!  I also liked how they had their cocktail hour first…as I’m sure the guests don’t mind a cocktail and hors d’oeurves before sitting down for the ceremony. The ceremony was absolutely gorgeous along the lake and I it was a nice touch to have the friends and family come up to do the 7 Blessings. Matt with Elite DJ did a great job getting the party started, and I absolutely loved the custom made crossword puzzles that quizzed guests on how well they knew the couple. Congratulations Hila & Mike, and thanks for having me be a part of your day!

Association of Bridal Consultants -”Alice in Wonderland” at The Makery

August 5, 2010

Last night I took a trip down the rabbit hole & photographed the Denver, Colorado group of ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants).    The Makery in Centennial, CO hosted this month’s event with a cake decorating contest.  I have been a member of this great group of professional wedding vendors for about 2 years now and am a huge fan of The Makery, so was happy to help them out by documenting the event.  ABC members  Butler Rents provided the rentals & T’DA Design did the elaborate decor.   The Food Guy, one of my favorite caterers, provided an amazing dinner for us, including rabbit stew & brightly colored chicken & potatoes to match the Alice in Wonderland Theme.   We also had a surprise “poison,” a brightly colored variety of martinis that was served in black tea cups so you wouldn’t know until it was poured what flavor you were getting, I loved that idea!  Rabbit was a first for many of us, along with cake decorating.  The Makery provided us each with our own mini 3 tier cake, a quick lesson on decorating, and an abundance of icing colors to play with.  Twiddle Dee & Twiddle Dum, the Mad Hatter, and all of the other Alice in Wonderland characters voted on their favorite cakes.  Charity, of  Wedding & Event Sitters, won the contest and one of her lucky brides will be receiving half off their wedding cake at The Makery.   Check out the slideshow below or go here to see more photos from this event.

Colorado Wedding Photography – Zori & Ben at The Pines of Genesee

August 2, 2010

Zori & Ben’s wedding at The Pines of Genesse was beautiful, emotional, and very entertaining!  Of course no weddings are perfect, and we had a little of a late start when the limo driver accidentally went to The Westin Hotel in downtown Denver instead of Westminster, but luckily everything else worked itself into a perfect night.  We had great weather for the ceremony, held outside under the aspens & pine trees at the beautiful site of The Pines of Genesee.   The ceremony ended with a Bulagarian tradition of toe stomping…according to custom whomever gets their foot over the others first is head of the household, and Zori won that battle!  Then the reception started off with a tear jerking emotional series of toast, which would have even made me cry if I didn’t have to keep my eyes dry to focus on the shots.    After dinner, there was lots of dancing (boy can Ben really cut a rug on the dance floor!), including another Bulgarian tradition of the chicken dance.  And no, this is no American chicken dance with flapping arms and cheesy music….but a dance entailing a real chicken and some kind of tease and contest involving money as well.  I didn’t really catch the meaning of that one, but it sure was different & very entertaining!  You can catch a shot of their “chicken dance” in the slideshow.  Zori & Ben are now headed off to Bulgaria for their honeymoon & to attend her maid of honor’s wedding.   I’m anxious to get through my edit and relive the joyous night, but for now here are a few pictures to enjoy:
