10-20-10 Wedding at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO

I first met Janis in the security line at the Denver airport almost a year ago.  To kill time we chatted in line and who would have known I would end up photographing her wedding!  I have to admit I was pretty surprised when she called me and asked me to photograph her wedding.  I didn’t think she remembered me or would have kept my card for so long.  But it all worked out and I will never complain about long lines at the airport again.  =)

Janis & Thom held an intimate wedding ceremony at Red Rocks Park in Morrison, Colorado last week.  The morning started off chilly, but it quickly warmed up and I don’t think we could have asked for better weather.   Janis & Thom didn’t want to waste any time tying the knot, and soon after the official engagement they started planning a  simple elopement to soon follow.  It didn’t quite end up being an elopement, as their family flew in on short notice to share this special moment with them, but that just made the day that much more special for them.  With limited time to plan I was more then happy to recommend Reverend Lucinda who I knew would not only be delighted to help put together such a special and unique ceremony, but would be able to do her flowers as well through her second wedding business, Tussie Mussie Floral.  She even risked almost getting into trouble with the police for picking wildflowers off the side of the road (as Janis had specifically requested), talk about service!  Their beautiful barefoot wedding included the singing of  “Butterfly Kisses,” hand written vows, and heartwarming prayers & toasts from the family.  I was also glad that one of my favorite videographers, Kevin with Stalls Video, was also available last minute to capture this once in a lifetime moment to be remembered forever and shared with all of their family & friends whom were not present.

Following the toast & lots of family pictures at Red Rocks everyone went to Beso de Arte, a Latin Bistro, for lunch. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful and a perfect place for a memorable lunch, located right outside of Red Rocks park in downtown Morrison.   Before I left I had to capture a shot of Janis & Thom kissing behind the waterfall, just for fun!  It’s kind of hard to tell, but if you look at the last picture in the slideshow you can just barely make out the beautiful newlyweds making out through the water.   Thanks Janis & Thom for having me share this special day with you!  Click play on the slideshow below to view some of my favorite pictures from their wedding day.

New Orleans Wedding at Hermann-Greman Courtyard & The Riverview Room

On 10-10-10 Jeremy & Stacy held their wedding in the city they fell in love in & in love with,  New Orleans.   They had about 200 guests from all over the country join them in the Big Easy for an incredible wedding no one will easily forget.   We met up with Jeremy & Stacy at the luxurious   Le Pavillon Hotel then did some pictures around Jackson Square in the French Quarter before heading to the historic Hermann-Grima Courtyard for a traditional yet entertaining Jewish ceremony.  From there we were met by the brass band, who led everyone in a second line parade through the French Quarter.  The bride & groom had beautiful parasols to dance with

and custom made colorful handkerchiefs for the wedding guests to parade with.  Everyone danced on over to the Riverview Room on Decatur St. for the reception.  Lots of cajun food and drinks were served, as guests enjoyed the views of the Mississippi River and danced all night to the Bucktown All Stars.   Of course the night could not be complete without dancing the hora, a few heartfelt toasts, and even the Mazinka dance, celebrating the last child in the family being married.   Play the slide show below to see a few more pictures from Jeremy & Stacy’s wedding day.

Jeremie & Jonathan recently celebrated their love with a beautiful ceremony at  the Metropolitan Community Church followed by a reception at the House of Blues in the French Quarter.
We started with pictures of the wedding party in front of the church on Carrollton St., and we got even got lucky enough to have a streetcar stop for us to take some pictures in front of it.  I loved their pastor’s English accent & how he focused his sermon on how normal a gay union is, perhaps not popular, but certainly just as normal as any two people sharing their love & lives together.  Throughout history gays have always been a part of reality, and always will be, its just unfortunate government & religion has not always recognized it.  It was great to see that Jeremie & Jonathan’s wedding was certainly full of lots of family & friends celebrating their love & bond.
After the wedding everyone jumped on a bus to the House of Blues downtown.  Everyone danced & partied into the night with the awesome band, The Bucktown All Stars.  Their cake & custom designed Mardi Gras beads were a perfect match to the antique New Orleans decor of the House of Blues.  And the HOB’s motto, “unity in diversity” couldn’t have fit better.  Thanks Jeremie & Jonathan for allowing me to be a part of your special event!  Check out just a few of the shots from the wedding day below, much more to come!

Last weekend I celebrated my 30th birthday in my hometown and favorite city of New Orleans.   I was originally planning on shooting a wedding Friday night, but to my dismay the groom  called it off.  With my flight already booked & less then a month to go I decided to just make the most of it & add another day of fun to my birthday weekend.  My birthday week didn’t start off well, I caught my nephew’s nasty cold and you know I must be feeling really bad when I even turn down a chance to see my fave New Orleans band, The Rebirth Brass Band, play their Tuesday night gig at the Maple Leaf.   But the week of resting was worth it as thankfully I finally started feeling good enough by Friday night to make it out to see the classic jazz performers at Preservation Hall, have a mojito at Pat O’Brien’s, and then take in some random events around the French Quarter.  It was the first time my associate photographer, Ashley, had been to New Orleans so I also had to take her by a few must-see spots such as Cafe du Monde, where instead of beignets we caught a glimpse of Mars (see slideshow).  Saturday was my big night out on Frenchmen St. with friends, and I was very thankful Ashley was willing to document the night for me & let me leave my camera home. Sunday started with a Bloody Mary & a Saints win, relaxing in Lafayette Square with musician Jon Cleary at the Blues & BBQ festival, and finished off with a sunset view of the city from on top one of New Orleans many hidden rooftop patios, and a  sloppy spicy dinner from Coops. It was definitely a great way to spend my 30th!  Check out some of my fave fun shots of NOLA below.  A few of these pictures will be available soon for sale, or check out some of my other fine art photography of New Orleans for sale online.

Red Rocks in Morrison, CO is one of my favorite locations for photo shoots. On this bright early 7am morning the trail I normally like to take clients on was closed for construction, but at Red Rocks there is never a shortage of backdrops for pictures. The kids had a blast running around playing and I even made sure to include their family dog in a few pictures, who just happened to come along that day. I love being able to capture these special moments between families. Kids grow up so fast and sometimes you just have to stop & freeze the moment in a photograph.

Cassi & Cameron’s Wedding at Jonesy’s Bar in Denver, Colorado

Cassi is the rare bride that refuses to look at wedding magazines & Cameron is the rare groom that wears jeans on his wedding day!  And I was the rare photographer that fit there “non-wedding” wedding day needs.  Cassi & Cameron first met at the bar next door to Jonesy’s, the Horseshoe, and living in the neighborhood it has become a second home to them.  They love Jonesy’s so much they even included on my shot list “a picture with the owners.”   So it made sense to have their wedding day at Jonesy’s Eat Bar and share that part of their lives with their extended family & friends who came in from all over the country.

On the wedding day I met Cassi & Cameron at their apartment a few blocks away.  We did a super quick photo walk towards the Benedict Fountain Park where the family was lined up for “Operation Happy Snap.”  I should have known then the military influence when I saw how organized & on time everyone was.  I think I may have set a time record for formals!  We then went inside for a very short but very sweet ceremony followed by heart-warming toasts full of military praise.  The party continued with incredible food, silly dancing, & a warm vibe; as friends & family from all over the country met & re-united.  Before the wedding was even over I heard numerous comments about how relaxed, fun, & different their wedding was and I couldn’t agree more.  These cool cats for sure had a wedding to remember!

Tatiana & Joaquin got married last weekend at the beautiful Blackstone Country Club in Aurora, Colorado.  I did a walk through with them last October to see how the grounds look in the fall, but this October was much warmer and greener then last year, which just made for even nicer pictures.  The Blackstone Country Club is a beautiful newer venue that is perfect for an elegant yet natural wedding.  They had a great Mariachi band to entertain guests for the ceremony & cocktail hour, along with Jeff Donovan from DJ on Demand to keep people grooving all night.  After about two years of engagement I was glad to see Tatiana & Joaquin’s wedding day finally come & very glad to be a part of it!
