Boudoir & Pin-up Photography FAQ

denver boudoir photography

What is Boudoir photography?
The word “boudoir” originally comes from the French and refers to a woman’s bedroom.  In modern terms it is used to refer to beautiful, sensual photos of females.

I’m single, I’m old, I’m  huge, can I still do boudoir photography?
No matter your size,  age, or relationship status anyone can and should do a boudoir photography session.   I often have people say that they want to do a boudoir session but don’t have a significant other to give the image to.  I say “do it for yourself!”   Having beautiful images of yourself as you are now will make you feel good and will be something you will forever be thankful for having done.  If you choose to share those images with a loved one down the road, well I’m sure that person will be ecstatic about it,  but just because you don’t have someone now is no reason to wait.  I have photographed woman as young as 18 up to 60 years of age, so please don’t let your age be a factor.  Beauty also comes in all shapes and sizes so flaunt those curves, or lack of them, I will help you look your best!

Where do you do your boudoir sessions?
I love to do on-location boudoir sessions in unique places such as a hidden park, an abandoned farm, or even  your favorite bar.   There are some great hotels around town that I can recommend that allow for hourly rentals  (or surprise your partner with a romantic hotel room for the night).  I have also done a lot of boudoir photo shoots in people’s homes and also have the option of a studio which particularly works well for those looking for more of a pin-up or glamour style of shoot.

Do you provide hair & makeup?
I have a few great hair and makeup artists I can recommend for your session based on availability.  They can provide false lashes, up-dos, and even stay on sight during your shoot to give you multiple different looks or touch-ups with each outfit.  If you are in need of a haircut (and trust your stylist to do an amazing job), then it may be a good idea to schedule your haircut with styling the morning of your shoot.  Some people will also visit the makeup counters at the mall for a makeup session, but be sure to contact them ahead of time as some will charge just as much as a makeup artist for a full application or expect you to purchase a certain amount of makeup for the service.

Can I do the session with a friend, or even with a group of girlfriends?
We love to do sessions with one or multiple friends involved, it really turns it into a party!  Keep in mind these typically involve much shorter sessions for each person, but is also a great way to share the initial costs.  Want a unique idea for a bachelorette boudoir party?  We have done quite a few pin-up/boudoir parties and can help you plan yours!  Call us for more information.

Can you explain in more detail how your sessions work?

BEFORE THE SHOOT: All photo sessions include a Design Consultation which is a brief meeting with the photographer, myself, to help define your style and unique vision.  At this time we will decide on a location, date, clothing, and other options that will work best for your photography needs.  I can also do your design consultation complimentary before you even book, that way you can be sure you feel comfortable with me and my services before committing to anything.

DURING THE SHOOT: For your photo session expect to have fun and feel like a supermodel!  We will meet at the agreed upon time and place.  You are free to bring anything that will help you relax and have fun, whether it’s a glass of wine, your favorite music, or your best friend (but I do not recommend bringing your significant other).  If it goes with your style I will bring along props and I will provide posing assistance to make sure your best angles are photographed.

AFTER THE SHOOT: We will schedule a time for you to do your Image Unveiling.  At this time I will unveil all your edited images and help you narrow down the best ones for your order, and show you how they may look with different color tones or filters.

So how much does a boudoir or pin-up photo session cost?
We have a few different packages to choose depending on how many outfits and the location of your photo shoot, starting at $275.  Each package does include a credit towards your order , that way you know you will get a tangible product included with your session fee.   Sessions may also be shared with a friend if done together.

What do I do with the credit afterwards, what type of products do you offer?
Most people choose one of the boudoir books, which come with your favorite images in a fine art book with your choice of paper and covers.  We also have many other products such as photo boxes, fine art prints, and even a music video!  We will review all of these options during your Design Consultation but you do not have to make any decisions until you see the images during your Image Unveiling.  And you are never obligated to purchase anything else.

Do you retouch the images?
YES!  Even supermodels need a little touching up.  Moderate retouching such as blemish removal, teeth whitening, and color toning are included on all of your ordered images.

Do you post my images online?
Due to the private nature of these images we do not post any images from your session online.  With your approval we may ask to share a few of your images in certain places such as  in our portfolio or on our blog, but this is totally your choice.

Can I get the digital files to print the images myself?
We do offer bonuses that include low resolution web images of your ordered images…for those non-shy individuals that want to show off their best shots on Facebook.  However, trust us, boudoir pictures are not the kind of images you want to be uploading online to a consumer print lab or taking to the teenage boy at Target to print for you.  Not only are your risking your images being used without your consent, but you don’t want to end up with poor quality prints of yourself with green tinted skin. We take great care in making sure your images are protected and do not get into the wrong hands.  We only print through high quality professional photography labs that have a great reputation and are accustomed to working with our fine art boudoir images.

I want to do a boudoir session for a Valentines gift, how far in advance do I need to book?
If you have a specific date in mind, whether its for a birthday gift or to surprise your husband with on your wedding day, please let us know when booking.  Keep in mind that we prefer to meet with everyone first during a Design Consultation to make sure all your questions are answered and that you feel comfortable with us (before taking your clothes off 😉  We can typically get you in for a Design Consultation within 48hrs, schedule the shoot for 3-10 days out, meet up one week later for your Image Unveiling, and then can have your final order ready within 1- 4 weeks, depending on what you order.  A lot of it depends on how busy we are and how flexible your schedule is, but it is typically anywhere from 3-7 weeks to have everything complete from the time you first contact us.  If you are one of those that like to wait till the last minute and are afraid it’s already too late please contact us before writing it off.  We have been known to perform miracles.

Aaron M - I’m considering purchasing a pin up shoot for my wife with you. I love the look/style of the old pin ups and think she would have a blast doing it and it would help her feel more femanine and confident. Do you have a price list or could you give me an idea of the costs involved so I know what I might be getting into? Thank you.
