After almost 3 months of staying home during our COVID-19 virus crisis, I was dreaming of getting out of my house, out the city, and into nature. Thankfully, there is a couple parks within walking or biking distance, and I spent almost every day at one of them with my kids. Here’s me below taking an afternoon yoga break in Wash Park.
But I couldn’t wait for the “stay at home” orders to be lifted so I could get out my neighborhood. Perhaps it’s the rebellious spirit in me that longed to escape just because I was told I couldn’t. Or perhaps I was just getting tired of the same monotonous daily routine, which I’m sure many of you can relate to. But whatever the case, I knew I had to get away, and the mountains were calling!!
So as soon as I heard the mountains were open again to visitors, I booked a condo and my family and I got out of town! We were one of the first visitors back in Keystone and with pretty much everything still shut down we felt like we had the whole town to ourselves! But there was something else I was craving; can you guess what it was?? Taking pictures and working with inspiring women of course! So, I also made sure to book an outdoor boudoir photo shoot while I was there, and it was AMAZING!
The fabulous Ms. D took on the challenge and signed up for the adventure of creating gorgeous portraits in the great outdoors. I spent the day before scouting around the little mountain town of Keystone to find spots that were easy to access and that would make good backdrops for pictures. And since Ms.D told me she loves dips in ice cold water, I also found a gorgeous spot where she could safely take a dip in the river. The river was raging with snow melt so I was a little worried at first it would be too dangerous to get in, but thankfully I was able to find a section with a safe shallow bank, but wow was it cold!
Here are some of her thoughts about the outdoor boudoir session:
I love the outdoors, and frankly, nothing is better than sunshine and fresh air on your skin! I love camping, hiking, and swimming in Colorado’s cold snow melt creeks (the colder, the better!). I’m coming up on my 1-year anniversary of marriage, and loved the chance to step outside my comfort zone, and to turn this experience into some gifts for my husband!
How did this make you feel following the session, did it help with your self-confidence and body image?
Fantastic! It did!
What would you tell other ladies that are on the fence about doing a similar type of photo shoot?
Just. do. it.
Outdoor sessions aren’t for everyone. Some people prefer the comfort of an indoor private studio and the more traditional look of a bedroom boudoir photo session. But the outdoor portrait sessions are something totally different- a little more rebellious, more of an adventure, and being one with nature. If you don’t mind laying in grass, playing in the water, skipping high heels for sandals or bare feet, then this is for YOU!
