Debbie & Kennon’s Wedding Picture Preview: The Lodge at Sunspot in Winter Park
Colorado is normally a dry state, where the sun always shine and chances of rain on your wedding day are slim. But not this summer. Almost every wedding I’ve photographed this year has been affected by rain. Thankfully, despite some downpour, the skies cleared in time for a beautiful stunning dry ceremony for Debbie & Kennon…

I met the bride at her condo for some pre-ceremony pictures. Her bridesmaids were all daughters of friends and family, and were all excited have a special role in the wedding day.

It rained on the drive to Winter Park but it stopped when we arrived and appeared to have cleared up for the day. But as luck would have it, as soon as our chairlifts got 50 ft. off the ground the rain suddenly started up again. My assistant and I at least had a rain jacket but the bride & bridesmaids has nothing with them but their bouquets, so they all got pretty wet on the ride up. Debbie and her girls were real troopers and handled it really well…but you can see the look on Debbie’s face below of surprise.

Waiting at the top of the mountain was her Prince Charming with his best man and son. Their first sight as bride & groom happened as Debbie departed the chairlift and made her way to Kennon, her groom.

The rain only stopped momentarily so we quickly grabbed an umbrella for some quick pictures outside.

The rain started coming down harder and harder, so in an effort to keep dry we moved inside the Sunspot Lodge to finish up pictures.

Debbie & Kennon had one of the most unique ideas I have ever seen for table centerpieces and favors. They had custom carabiners made with their names and wedding dates engraved on them, which they had fastened to each person’s place card. And for centerpieces on each dinner table they had a pot of baby Blue Spruce trees with a note that read “September 1, 2013: We’re growing lots of things today: Love, friendship, and joyful memories…and trees. We will plant our centerpieces in a pine beetle-affected area of Summit County” Its obvious this couple cares for the planet. And to take it even one step farther they even had paperless wedding invitations produced by Greenvelope.com

We all took a huge sigh of relief when just about fifteen minutes before the start of the ceremony the rain finally stopped and the skies cleared. Debbie & Kennon could have their dream mountain wedding outdoors after all! Their friend, Pastor Abi Foerster, led an emotional and passionate wedding ceremony that had everyone grinning, or tearing up.

To end the ceremony the guests blew bubbles at the bride & groom as they walked back down the aisle. Such a fun way to celebrate a marriage!

Now that the sun was finally out we could get some outdoor portraits as planned.

After the ceremony everyone celebrated with drinks and dancing inside the Sunspot Lodge, which was led by a first dance below with the bride and groom.

Debbie and her father certainly knew how to tear up the dance floor! And their DJ, of A Music Plus, did a great job playing their custom selection of music ranging from the famous “Electric Slide” to Jimmy Buffet’s greatest hits.

And during dinner we made it back outside just in time for the end of sunset when the colors were their most stunning. A beautiful wedding for a beautiful couple.
