T.J. & Michelle’s Sneak Peak: Wedding at Riu Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica

I first met Michelle & T.J. when they hired me for their engagement pictures in Denver about a year ago. I’ve gotten to know them pretty well since then and I was thrilled when they decided they wanted me come to Jamaica to photograph their destination wedding. On May 10th their closest friends and families came together to celebrate their love and watch their dream come true as they married barefoot on the beach. Michelle & TJ held their wedding at Riu Hotel in Ocho Rios, an all-inclusive resort on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Shoes were rarely worn in Jamaica, but the pearl beaded jewelry was perfect for the beach. Its actually “jewel sandals” that fit around your ankle and toes to add some bling to your feet. The bride made a pair for all the girls in the wedding party.

One of Michelle & T.J.’s best friends was their officiant and the bride and groom each wrote their own vows which was a great way to personalize the wedding ceremony. It was a beautiful and romantic beach wedding and it was so great to finally see all of their planning and hard work come together so well.

Michelle & T.J. got married at 11am when the water was still a bright teal color. The intimate beach wedding was followed by a brunch and then their guests had the rest of the day to lounge around on the beach.

About 30 of their closest friends and families came together for their Jamaican wedding. It wasn’t just a one day celebration, but more like a long four day weekend, or for the lucky ones, a week long celebration in Jamaica. Having more then just one day to celebrate with your guests is certainly a big plus about destination weddings.

The groom and groomsmen stayed cool on the beach in their thin cotton white & tan suits.

The bridesmaids were just as cool in their matching shades. Michelle & T.J. had custom glasses made for everyone at their wedding that had their wedding date and names printed on the sides. It was definitely needed for this bright sunny day.

The wedding party had a blast soaking up rays in Ocho Rios. It was most of their first times in Jamaica, but I have a feeling most of them will be back sooner or later.

My favorite shots are the unexpected. This one above under the palm tree wasn’t planned. Everyone had started to walk away to go to lunch, including myself. But I kept an eye on Michelle & T.J. and caught this candid shot of them taking in the moment alone on the beach.

Later that evening I met back up with Michelle & T.J. for sunset portraits on the beach. This nearby restaurant had a unique Jamaican style with its bamboo walls, bright blue doors, and thatched roof that worked great for pictures.

Having some fun! Nothing beats jumping on a bed in your wedding dress on a beach.

The sun set quickly over the ocean and produced a beautiful sunset for their beach wedding pictures. You can see the love radiating between Michelle & T.J. every time they look into each other’s eyes…such a perfect match.

Later that night Michelle & T.J. hosted a bonfire on the beach for all their wedding guests. The hotel crew wrote their initials in the sand and let the bride and groom light a strip of lighter fluid that sparked the bonfire in the middle. The bonfire was a great way to end the wedding day.
