Happy Halloween
For Halloween I thought it would be fitting to share these dark gothic steampunk images I took a few months ago while in London. I photographed Faith’s steampunk wedding in Denver a few years ago and she moved to London shortly thereafter. Faith has an amazing collection of steampunk clothing and accessories and I just happened to be traveling to London so it worked out great to do this photo shoot with her while I was there. The city of London was a perfect backdrop for the Victorian, machine-age, Renaissance style that defines steampunk.

We started the photo shoot in front the Tower of London, a historic castle built back in 1066, almost one thousand years ago! This castle is now apparently haunted by the prisoners that were restrained here over the years.

We then took a walk along the famous Tower Bridge. The gothic architecture is breathtaking, and a perfect compliment to Faith’s gothic steampunk outfit.

The colors of the Tower Bridge consist of a lot of really bright blues. I loved the colors, but in keeping with the dark steampunk look (and Halloween) I decided to mute the colors to fit the style of the photo shoot better. Perhaps one day I’ll do another post with all the natural bright colors, as well as with the more happy pictures I caught of Faith smiling and laughing…but for this post I’m keeping it dark.

Next it was time for an outfit change…and a beer break. There are certainly no shortage of pubs in London, but there’s also no shortage of people either. So I scouted out locations a few days in advance to make sure I could find one that wouldn’t be packed with patrons and that we would be able to shoot in. The basement of this pub along the Thames River worked out just perfectly.

Faith’s gothic black mask was a perfect accessory to this outfit. I’m starting to really wish I had an outfit this cool to wear tonight for Halloween.

I love the creativity that comes along with being a portrait photographer, and when I have the chance a travel photographer too. Especially when given the opportunity to create unique artistic pictures filled with black lace, sexy bustiers, and gothic masks.

There was time for one more outfit change and location before calling it a day. The huge metal sculpture above looked like it was created just for us. The gothic style of this iron sculpture with all of its intricate parts and gears looked like it was a prop for a Steampunk scene, or like a huge artwork that belonged at Burning Man.

One last pose along the Thames River with the skyline of the city behind us. Thanks again Faith for modeling, so glad you had this idea to do a steampunk themed photo shoot in London. I had an amazing time working and playing around England, lots of vintage artistic inspiration, and not to mention fun accents.
